Drains and sewer pipes can suffer from wear and tear the same as any other building structure. The majority of drains in the UK are Victorian and, as they are out of sight, they are often out of mind and very rarely maintained. Open or displaced joints, cracked or broken drains can cause resistance to the flow in the pipe which can cause a build up of waste in the effected area causing the drain to block which can be very unpleasant.
Open or displaced sewer pipe joints can also cause the drain to leak, allowing sewer waste and water to escape from the drain and, over a period of time, wash away the surrounding soil reducing the drain support which can often lead to the drain collapsing. This can cause sewer waste and water to flood properties which can be a major health risk.
To identify any such problems ADS would initially undertake a
CCTV Drain Survey which would detect any structural defects upon which a pre-determined method of drain repair would be recommended.
Patch Repairs
ADS uses the Epros patch repair system which has passed the WRC short term hydrostatic testing procedures and extensively used through the world. We consider Epros systems the market leader in this field. The Epros drain packer method is for the repair of pipes in the case of cracks, fractures, open and displaced joints and strong infiltration.
Localised patch drain repairs smooth over displaced joints, seal cracks and holes reducing the resistance caused by such defects therefore increasing the flow of solids and liquids helping to prevent future blockages in a problem drain. The patch repair would also prevent further root ingress, water ingress or egress by sealing the pipe internally and restoring the structural stability of the pipe. This method is also successfully used worldwide to seal pipes with water infiltration or have failed air tests which can prevent sewer adoption.
Pipe Re-lining
ADS use the Epros drain lining repair method using an air inversion unit. This 'no dig' process can be performed via cleaning or inspection holes or any other pipe opening. This method is used to repair entire pipe lengths from manhole to manhole or from manhole to main sewer.
Both the above systems are much more cost effective and less disruptive than having to dig up damaged pipes to make the repair or install new drains.
